History
Financing - a route to increased sales.
1980
The former Televerket (the Telecommunications Administration) seeks the permission of the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) to establish its own finance company. The principle argument was that this would lead to increased sales.
1981
The Riksdag denies the application.
1982
Televerket assures the Riksdag that the planned company would work solely with Televerket's own investments. The proposal is approved despite certain misgivings among politicians. Televerket enlists the assistance of Merkantil Leasing in establishing Telefinans.
1982–1984
Operations gradually broaden. For example, it becomes possible for Telefinans to finance all equipment delivered by Televerket.
All agreements to Telefinans
1984
Telefinans acquires a stock of about 23,000 agreements from Televerket. The transactions create a certain degree of disorder due to insufficient administrative capacity.
1986
The company starts to build up a sales organization to be able to actively process Telia's sales force. The cooperation with Merkantil Leasing is phased out.
1987–1988
Telefinans opens local offices in Malmö and Gothenburg. Subsidiaries Sergel Inkasso and Teletrading are also launched.
Packaging forms the foundation for successful business
1989
Telefinans secures authorization as a finance company. It becomes possible to finance Televerket's network solutions. The company launches packaged leasing solutions including hardware, network solutions and service. This concept quickly achieves considerable success.
1990

1993
Televerket changes name to Telia.
Conquering the Nordic region
1994
Telia establishes Telia Handel, a network of independent companies selling Telia's products and services. Telefinans establishes a team to support Telia Handel and is thus able, for the first time, to finance solutions not delivered by Telia.
1995
Telefinans establishes branch offices in Denmark and Norway.
1996
Telefinans changes name to Telia Finans and is organized directly beneath Telia in its new Financial Services business area. Sergel Inkasso changes name to Sergel Kredittjänster and becomes a sister company to Telia Finans.

Telia Finans opens a branch office in Finland.
